I want the warm-up first.
Then I want you to mean it. Soft the whole way through feels like you are frightened of me, and I can feel that in my body before my brain has even found the words.
I am not asking for a performance. I am not asking for that porn thing where someone slams in like they have somewhere else to be. I am asking for a bit of sense. Start like you have actually noticed I am a person. Then, when I am in it, stop treating me like I might snap.
That is the whole article, really. The rest is just me trying to explain it without sounding like a manual.
Slow is not shy
People hear slow and think timid. Like I want candles and a speech and someone stroking my arm as if I am poorly. I do not. Slow, for me, is attention. Mouth on my neck. Hands that stay long enough to feel something. The kind of kissing that is not a box-ticking exercise on the way to the main event.
I have had nights where a man went at me like he was late for a bus. Clothes half off, no look at my face, no check if I was even there. That is not confident. That is impatient. I can do impatient if we have already decided that is the game. Most of the time we have not. Most of the time he is just nervous and covering it with speed.
Warm-up is not extra. Warm-up is how I arrive. My head has been on a warehouse floor all day. Radio in my ear. Somebody moaning about pallets. If you skip the start, you get the version of me that is still half at work. She can still have sex. She will not enjoy you as much.
I like being touched like you are learning me, even if you have already had me. Shoulders. Hip. The back of my thigh. Not a race to the obvious places. The obvious places work better when you have not treated them like a destination you can take a shortcut to.
Then I want you to mean it
Once I am there, do not stay polite.
I can feel the difference between careful and scared. Careful is you watching me, changing something because I made a sound. Scared is you staying light and floaty because you think intensity makes you a bad person. Or because you think I am delicate. I am 5’3″ and I swear a lot and I have a high drive. I am not made of glass. If I want you to stop, I will say stop. I am not a mind-reader project. I am quite loud when I need to be.
Meaning it looks like weight. Your body actually on mine. A hand in my hair that holds rather than flaps about. A pace that has a point. You can still look at me. You should look at me. That is not the same as hovering two inches above me like you are frightened of leaving a mark.
I like being taken a bit seriously in bed. Not worshipped. Not handled. Met. If you are going to say filthy things, say them in your real voice. If you are going to hold my wrists, hold them like you chose that, not like you saw it in a clip and you are trying it on.
The men who stay gentle the entire time often think they are being respectful. Sometimes they are. Sometimes they are just hoping I will run the night for them so they never have to risk being too much. I already run enough of my life. Rota. Rent. Makeup in a shared bathroom. I do not want to also have to drag someone into wanting me properly.
Soft all the way through feels like fear
This is the bit people get precious about.
I am not saying gentle sex is bad. Some nights that is exactly what I want. A Sunday. A mood. A person I actually like more than I planned to. Soft can be gorgeous when it is a choice. Soft as a default, every time, no matter what my body is doing, feels like you are managing me.
I notice it most when I am already wet and already moving with you and you are still doing that careful little rhythm as if I might file a complaint. That is when I start thinking too much. Is he bored. Am I too much. Does he think I need saving. My head is a noisy flat at the best of times. Sex is one of the few things that shuts it up. If you stay timid after I have clearly arrived, the noise comes back.
There is also a vanity thing I will admit because I said I would be honest. If you never quite commit, I start clocking myself. Is my face doing something weird. Do I look like I am working too hard. That is the death of it for me. I come easier when I am not performing pretty. Intensity helps. Laughing helps. Being used a bit, on purpose, with me still in the room, helps.
Frightened of me is a specific feeling. You can smell it. The man who likes the idea of a cocky girl and then does not know what to do when she is actually in his bed, asking him not to treat her like a spa treatment. I would rather you said you were nervous than give me forty minutes of almost.
How I actually tell you
I am not mysterious about this if you are listening.
If I pull you in, that is not decoration. If my voice drops, that is not me going shy. If I say harder, I mean harder, not please invent a new personality. If I go quiet in a bad way, that is different from quiet in a good way. Bad quiet is me leaving the room in my head. Good quiet is me staying.
Ask once. Then watch. I like being asked. I like it more when you do not turn it into a risk assessment every thirty seconds. Consent is not a form you keep sliding across the duvet. Consent is you noticing I am still here and still with you.
And if I laugh, that is usually a good sign. I tense up when it is all very serious and cinematic. Filthy and a bit funny is the mix. You can mean it and still be a person. Those are not opposites.
The start still matters after you speed up
This is where people swing too far the other way.
They hear me say do not stay gentle and they skip the beginning next time. Wrong. The beginning is what makes the rest land. If you start rough because you think that is my brand, you have missed it. I am not a setting you put on rough and leave. I am a person who wants to be warmed up and then met with some backbone.
Hands can stay kind while the pace changes. Mouth can stay on me. You can still check my face. Meaning it is not the same as disappearing into your own rhythm and hoping I keep up. I have had that. It is lonely. Lonely sex is worse than bad banter, and I say that as someone who can talk through almost anything.
I also want the end to come back down. Water. A laugh. A hand on my back. Do not roll off like the job is done and you have clocked out. Aftercare is part of it for me. Not because I am fragile. Because I used sex to feel chosen, and if you vanish the second you have finished, I notice. I always notice.
What this is not
It is not a demand that every man become a certain type in bed. It is not me saying pain is the point. It is not a review of anyone I have slept with, so if you think this is about you, that is your business.
It is me saying my body likes a runway. Then it likes a flight. If you taxi forever, I get bored. If you take off from a standstill, I brace. Neither of those is the night I keep thinking about on the night bus, checking my face in the window like an idiot.
I can be cocky in a kitchen and still want to be handled like someone has decided. Those two things live in the same person. The smirk is real. The want is real. The bit where I ask you not to stay frightened of me is the most honest thing I will say about sex this week.
Start slow. Look at me. Then, when I am there, stop treating me like I might break. Mean it. Stay until the quiet after. That is the whole instruction, and it is not even an instruction. It is just how I work.
