I Want My Hair Held Not Yanked

There is a difference and you can feel it immediately.

Hold me there. Do not treat my head like some handle from a cheap porn film.

I say this with love. And a bit of side eye. Because half the men who go for the hair are not even being filthy. They are copying something they saw once and hoping it counts as personality.

It does not.

I like it. I do. A hand in my hair can send me somewhere useful faster than a speech. But there is held, and there is yanked, and if you get those mixed up I am not staying in the mood. I am calculating how many strands just left my scalp and whether I have to go to work tomorrow looking like I lost a fight with a coat hanger.

Held is control. Yanked is homework.

Held means you have gathered it close to my head, firm, like you actually know where I am. My face goes where you want it. My throat opens a bit. I stop managing the room. That is the point.

Yanked is when you grab a random handful at the ends and tug like you are starting a lawnmower. That does not make me submissive. That makes me annoyed. And once I am annoyed I am back in my own head, which is the last place you want me during sex.

I work in a warehouse. I spend all day being competent and a bit smug and slightly tired. When I am in bed I do not need a performance of roughness. I need someone who can take the wheel without ripping the steering column out.

If you are going to do it, do it from the roots

This is the whole trick and people still miss it.

Slide your hand in. Get close to the scalp. Make a fist there. Then pull. Not from the fluffy bit at the bottom. From the place my head actually lives.

Close to the head gives you control and it hurts in the good way, if it hurts at all. Grabbing the ends just rips. I have paid for this hair. I sit in that bathroom mirror longer than I should. I am not offering it up as a sacrifice to your highlight reel.

If I have it up, even better. A ponytail is basically an invitation if you use it properly. Wrap your hand around the base. Guide. Do not swing me about like a kettlebell.

Start like you have manners

I do not need a consent seminar in the middle of it. I also do not need you to go from zero to demolition in one grab.

A light fist first. See what my body does. If I push back into your hand, you can go firmer. If I go quiet and stiff, that is not mystery. That is me leaving the building.

I talk during sex because silence makes me drift. Same rule here. If I say harder, I mean it. If I say easy, I also mean it. You do not get a prize for ignoring the second one and calling it passion.

People love to pretend rough is the same as confident. It is not. Confident is paying attention. Rough is a setting. You can be both. You can also be neither and still think you are brilliant, which is how I end up doing my makeup again at 1am and calling a cab.

Where it actually works

Doggy, obviously. That is the classic for a reason. You can hold my hair and set the pace without turning it into a neck injury. Keep the pull in line with my spine. Do not crank my head sideways like you are parking a van.

From behind on the edge of the bed. Same idea. Held, not hauled.

When I am on my knees it is different again. I like being guided. I do not like being used as a handle so you can ignore everything else I am doing. If your only contribution is a fist in my hair and a blank expression, you can sit down. I already know what I am doing there.

Missionary can be quiet and still filthy if you gather it at the back of my head and keep me close. That one is less about dominance and more about not letting me hide. I like that more than I admit.

What it is actually about

It is not really about pain. Not for me.

It is about being wanted in a way that does not ask me to run the whole night. I am cocky in daylight. I flirt first. I talk too much. A proper hand in my hair shuts that management voice up for a minute. I can stop performing being fine.

That is why the cheap version bothers me. If you yank, you are not taking me anywhere. You are just adding chaos. I get enough of that from the flat, the rota, and London rain.

I also do not want the movie version. The girl who exists to have her head snapped back on cue while the man stares into the middle distance. I am 30. I have a shift in the morning. I want to feel claimed and still be able to put a brush through this in the bathroom after.

A few things that kill it instantly

Grabbing without gathering. That is just a handful of loose hair and a bad surprise.

Pulling up when my neck wants forward. You can feel the difference if you are paying even a little bit of attention.

Doing it as a personality. One good pull in the right moment is filthy. Doing it every thirty seconds because you saw it on your phone is homework. I can tell.

No check in after you have gone harder. You do not need a meeting. A pause. A look. My name. Anything that proves you noticed I am still a person attached to the hair.

And leaving a mess in it with no follow through. If you are going to wreck the style, you can stand in the bathroom while I sort it. Hand me a clip. Do not roll over like the job is done and my head is collateral.

If you want the short version

Hold from the roots.

Start lighter than your ego wants.

Pull me where you want me. Do not rip me there.

Watch what my body does, not what the film did.

If I lean into your hand, keep going. If I flinch, ease off. That is not me being difficult. That is me having a scalp and a job and a limited amount of patience for men who think hair is a lever.

I like filthy. I like firm. I like being moved.

I do not like being treated like a handle.

Get that right and I will go quiet in the good way. Get it wrong and I am already writing the story in my head for the night bus home.

Held. Not yanked. It is not complicated. It just requires you to mean it.

I’m Els. Thirty, London, warehouse floor by day and a full face by the time I leave the bathroom. I talk like I am fine because most of the time I am, and the rest of the time I would rather be funny than sit in the quiet. I like a night out, a look that lands, a cab I probably should not have booked.
